ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Michael Lovato has quickly established himself as one of America’s top Ironman triathletes. It all began with his first win in 2003 and progressed to the present day 3x Ironman Champion status. In addition, Michael has represented the USA three times at the Ironman World Championships, since 2006, ranking in the top 10.

Presshive and Rev3 Triathlon were on a mission, to create a site for Michael Lovato, that would showcase his career as a professional triathlete, in addition – showcase his personal life with his wife – Amanda, who is also professional Triathlete. Both Lovatos are well known and respected in the triathlon world and prime candidates to heighten their online presence with new CMS based websites (see Amanda Lovato case study for more on her website).

Pro triathletes such as Michael Lovato travel frequently, so it was important to showcase this content through a WordPress based CMS website with a blog, photo gallery, schedule, coaching, sponsors, and a contact form. Although WordPress suits the basic blogger, we needed to take it a step further with two specific functionality requests: the sponsors and schedule.

The Sponsors was a custom made plugin allowing multiple images and a description to be associated with a single company sponsor. 1 image was showcased on the sponsor page and the other on the site’s WordPress theme template.

Another custom made Presshive WordPress plug-in was the Schedule section. Upcoming events were listed at the top with nearest event respectfully listed 1st and past events were then automatically moved and listed on the Race Resume web page. Each post type contained specific triathlon related fields for events: race name, location, rank, finish time, date, and of course the race report write ups associated with that event.

Finally, we packed a flickr based photo gallery into Michael Lovato’s website. Flickr being the choice medium due to it’s popularity and end user simplicity when it comes to managing photos and organizing. Always keeping the client in mind, these photos automatically get posted directly into his WordPress driven website – allowing the world to see all of his achievements and antics in the world of Triathlon.
